Words of Wisdom from the Qur'an :
1. Respect and honour all human beings irrespective of their religion, color, race, sex, language, status, property, birth, profession/job and so on [Quran 17:70]

12. Do not participate in any paltry. If you pass near a futile play, then pass by with dignity

14. If, unintentionally, any misconduct occurs by you, then correct yourself expeditiously [Quran 3:134]
15. Do not be contemptuous or arrogant with people [Quran 31:18]
16. Do not walk haughtily or with conceit [Quran 17:37, 31:18]
17. Be moderate in thy pace [Quran 31:19]
18. Walk with humility and sedateness [Quran 25:63]
19. Keep your gazes lowered devoid of any lecherous leers and salacious stares

20. If you do not have complete knowledge about anything, better keep your mouth shut. You might think that speaking about something without full knowledge is a trivial matter. But it might have grave consequences [Quran 24:15-16]
21. When you hear something malicious about someone, keep a favorable view about him/her until you attain full knowledge about the matter. Consider others innocent until they are proven guilty with solid and truthful evidence [Quran 24:12-13]
22. Ascertain the truth of any news, lest you smite someone in ignorance and afterwards repent of what you did [Quran 49:6]
23. Do not follow blindly any information of which you have no direct knowledge. (Using your faculties of perception and conception) you must verify it for yourself. In the Court of your Lord, you will be held accountable for your hearing, sight, and the faculty of reasoning [Quran 17:36]
24. Never think that you have reached the final stage of knowledge and nobody knows
more than yourself. Remember! Above everyone endowed with knowledge is another endowed
with more knowledge [Quran 12:76]
25. Do not make mockery of others or ridicule others [Quran 49:11]
27. Do not defame others [Quran 49:11]
28. Do not insult others by nicknames [Quran 49:11]
29. Avoid suspicion and guesswork Suspicion and guesswork might deplete your communal energy [Quran 49:12]
30. Spy not upon one another [Quran 49:12]
31. Do not backbite one another [Quran 49:12]
32. When you meet each other, offer good wishes and blessings for safety. One who conveys to you a message of safety and security and also when a courteous greeting is offered to you, meet it with a greeting still more courteous or (at least) of equal courtesy [Quran 4:86]
33. When you enter your own home or the home of somebody else, compliment the inmates
[Quran 24:61]
34. Do not enter houses other than your own Until you have sought permission; and then greet the inmates and wish them a life of blessing, purity and pleasure [Quran 24:27]
35. Treat kindly " Your parents " Relatives " The orphans " And those who have been left alone in the society [Quran 4:36]
36. Take care of " The needy, " The disabled " Those whose hard earned income is insufficient

38. Be generous to the needy wayfarer, the homeless son of the street, and the one who reaches you in a destitute condition [Quran 4:36]
39. Be nice to people who work under your care. [Quran 4:36]
40. Do not follow up what you have given to Others to afflict them with reminders of your generosity [Quran 2:262].
41. Do not expect a return for your good behaviour, not even thanks [Quran 76:9]
42. Cooperate with one another in good deeds and do not cooperate with others in evil and bad matters [Quran 5:2]
43. Do not try to impress people on account of self-proclaimed virtues [Quran 53:32]
44. You should enjoin right conduct on others but mend your own ways first. Actions speak louder than words. You must first practice good deeds yourself, then preach [Quran 2:44]
45. Correct yourself and your families first [before trying to correct others] [Quran 66:6]
46. Pardon gracefully if anyone among you who commits a bad deed out of ignorance, and then repents and amends [Quran 6:54, 3:134]
47. Divert and sublimate your anger and potentially virulent emotions to creative energy, and
become a source of tranquility and comfort to people [Quran 3:134]
48. Call people to the Way of your Lord with wisdom and beautiful exhortation. Reason with them most decently [Quran 16:125]
49. Leave to themselves those who do not give any importance to the Divine code and have adopted and consider it as mere play and amusement [Quran 6:70]
51. Do not be jealous of those who are blessed [Quran 4:54]
52. In your collective life, make rooms for others [Quran 58:11]
53. When invited to dine, Go at the appointed time. Do not arrive too early to wait for the preparation of meal or linger after eating to engage in bootless babble. Such things may cause inconvenience to the host [Quran 33:53]
54. Eat and drink [what is lawful] in moderation [Quran 7:31].
55. Do not squander your wealth senselessly [Quran 17:26]
56. Fulfill your promises and commitments [Quran 7:31].
57. Keep yourself clean, pure [Quran 9:108, 4:43, 5:6].
58. Dress-up in agreeable attire and adorn yourself with exquisite character from inside out
[Quran 7:26]
59. Seek your provision only by fair endeavour [Quran 29:17, 2:188]
60. Do not devour the wealth and property of others unjustly, nor bribe the officials or the judges to deprive others of their possessions [Quran 2:188]

The great miracles of the Qur'an
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
(1) All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. (2) The Beneficent, the Merciful. (3) Master of the Day of Judgment. (4) Thee do we serve and Thee do we beseech for help. (5) Keep us on the right path. (6) The path of those upon whom Thou hast bestowed favors. Not (the path) of those upon whom Thy wrath is brought down, nor of those who go astray. (7) Qur’an Al-Faatiha
Therefore remember Me, I will remember you, and be thankful to Me, and do not be ungrateful to Me. (152). Qur’an (Al-Baqara) And Allah has brought you forth from the wombs of your mothers-- you did not know anything-- and He gave you hearing and sight and hearts that you may give thanks. The Qur'an, this extraordinary book which was revealed to the Seal of the Prophets Muhammad (peace be upon him), is a source of inspiration and true knowledge. The book of Islam is being proved as God's word as each new piece of historical, scientific or archaeological information comes to light, facts about scientific subjects and the news delivered to us about the past and future, facts that no one could have known at the time of the Qur'an's revelation, are announced in its verses, It is impossible for this information, examples in this book, to have been known with the level of knowledge and technology available in 7th century Arabia, which is big evidence that the Qur’an is the words of God, the creator of this universe. In order that we might receive the many blessings of the Qur’an, we must stand at every verse and understand its meaning, its purpose, and our duty towards it, and to know their requirements, and follow their ethics, and carry out orders, and teach to others. Our mandate is to read the Qur’an and learn to read considering the objectives of the verses, and an understanding of the words and their meaning. God said: (It is) a Book We have revealed to you abounding in good that they may ponder over its verses, and that those endowed with understanding may be mindful). In order to understand the Word of God must be our heart alive and not dead, and our heart is alive only if we frequently mentioned God, God said: (Read in the name of your Lord who created). These are some of the great miracles that mentioned in the Qur'an, the objective behind these miracles created by God and reminded us in the Qur'an is for us to believe that this holy book is God’s word, and it revealed to us by God's knowledge, God said: (But Allah bears witness by what He has revealed to you that He has revealed it with His knowledge, and the angels bear witness (also); and Allah is sufficient as a witness), then after we recognize this fact we must respond to God commands in the Qur’an and implement them. God said: (Those who remember Allah standing and sitting and lying on their sides and reflect on the creation of the heavens and the earth: Our Lord! Thou hast not created this in vain! Glory be to Thee; save us then from the chastisement of the fire).

God said: (Do not those who disbelieve see that the heavens and the earth were closed up, but We have opened them; and We have made of water everything living, will they not then believe? (30) And We have made great mountains in the earth lest it might be convulsed with them, and We have made in it wide ways that they may follow a right direction. Splitting of the moon:
The scientists at NASA has revealed the space for a clear impact to undermine the broad surface of the moon spread over the whole diameter, as if the moon is divided into two equal halves, this phenomenon has puzzled researchers in the world who did not find a logical explanation or scientific at this point. (1) And if they see a miracle they turn aside and say: Transient magic. (2) And they call (it) a lie, and follow their low desires; and every affair has its appointed term. (3) And certainly some narratives have come to them wherein is prevention-- (4) Consummate wisdom-- but warnings do not avail; (5) So turn (your) back on them (for) the day when the inviter shall invite them to a hard task, (6) Their eyes cast down, going forth from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, (7) Hastening to the inviter. The unbelievers shall say: This is a hard day) Qur’an- Al-Qamar

Blessed is He Who sent down the Furqan upon His servant that he may be a warner to the nations; (1) He, Whose is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, and Who did not take to Himself a son, and Who has no associate in the kingdom, and Who created everything, then ordained for it a measure. (2) And they have taken besides Him gods, who do not create anything while they are themselves created, and they control not for themselves any harm or profit, and they control not death nor life, nor raising (the dead) to life. Is it then other than Allah's religion that they seek (to follow), and to Him submits whoever is in the heavens and the earth, willingly or unwillingly, and to Him shall they be returned. (83) Say: We believe in Allah and what has been revealed to us, and what was revealed to Ibrahim and Ismail and Ishaq and Yaqoub and the tribes, and what was given to Musa and Isa and to the prophets from their Lord; we do not make any distinction between any of them, and to Him do we submit. (84) And whoever desires a religion other than Islam, it shall not be accepted from him, and in the hereafter he shall be one of the losers. Qur’an (Al-Imraan) 83- 85
When the earth is shaken with her (violent) shaking, (1) And the earth brings forth her burdens, (2) And man says: What has befallen her? (3) On that day she shall tell her news, (4) Because your Lord had inspired her. (5) On that day men shall come forth in sundry bodies that they may be shown their works. (6) So. he who has done an atom's weight of good shall see it (7) And he who has done an atom's weight of evil shall see it. (8) Qur’an (Az-Zalzala)
The Messenger of Allah may Allah bless him and his family and him: (God, angels and inhabitants of the heavens and the earth, even the ant in her lap and even the fish pray on who teaches people what is good)

(15) Taking what their Lord gives them; surely they were before that, the doers of good. (16) They used to sleep but little in the night. (17) And in the morning they asked forgiveness. (18) And in their property was a portion due to him who begs and to him who is denied (good). (19) And in the earth there are signs for those who are sure, (20) And in your own souls (too); will you not then see? (21) And in the heaven is your sustenance and what you are threatened with. (22) And by the Lord of the heavens and the earth! it is most surely the truth, just as you do speak) Qur’an. Adh-Dhaariyat
Cosmic towers (the mansions of the starts):
A huge celestial bodies estimated by millions, and millions of light years away from us, and we do not only see a few of them with the naked eye because some are dark and others swimming in deep space, and it is the place where the starts is born, The scientists in the the twenty-first century monitored by their developed telescopes many of these towers in several forms and colors, and in the form of huge towers extend for a distance of 200 million light-years away! God mentioned to us these enormous towers in the Holy Quran before more than 1400 years ago! That is for us to believe in trustiness of the Qur’an and believe in Him, and to follow his noble message (Mohammed), God said: (I swear by the mansions of the stars, (1) And the promised day, (2) And the bearer of witness and those against whom the witness is borne. (3) Cursed be the makers of the pit, (4) Of the fire (kept burning) with fuel, (5) When they sat by it, (6) And they were witnesses of what they did with the believers. (7) And they did not take vengeance on them for aught except that they believed in Allah, the Mighty, the Praised, (8) Whose is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is a Witness of all things. (9) Surely (as for) those who persecute the believing men and the believing women, then do not repent, they shall have the chastisement of hell, and they shall have the chastisement of burning. (10) Surely (as for) those who believe and do good, they shall have gardens beneath which rivers flow, that is the great achievement. (11) Surely the might of your Lord is great. (12) Surely He it is Who originates and reproduces, (13) And He is the Forgiving, the Loving, (14) Lord of the Arsh, the Glorious, (15) The great doer of what He will) Qur’an: Al-Burooj

The scientists during their studies of these galaxies and cosmic clouds were stunned by the beauty and exquisite forms, the cosmic beauty in these images cannot be belied by the eye, and God Almighty is truthful when he said: (And certainly We have made strongholds in the heaven and We have made it fair seeming to the beholders. (16) And We guard it against every accursed Shaitan, (17) But he who steals a hearing, so there follows him a visible flame. (18) And the earth-- We have spread it forth and made in it firm mountains and caused to grow in it of every suitable thing. (19) And We have made in it means of subsistence for you and for him for whom you are not the suppliers. (20) And there is not a thing but with Us are the treasures of it, and We do not send it down but in a known measure. (21) And We send the winds fertilizing, then send down water from the cloud so We give it to you to drink of, nor is it you who store it up. (22) And most surely We bring to life and cause to die and We are the heirs. (23) And certainly We know those of you who have gone before and We certainly know those who shall come later. (24) And surely your Lord will gather them together; surely He is Wise, Knowing) Qur’an: Al-Hijr

The verse that God has showed great sincerity of the Qur'an until the Day of Resurrection, where it was the occurrence of this miracle at the time of Prophet Muhammad blessings be upon him, after a request from the infidels of Mecca the Prophet Muhammad to show them a verse indicates that He is the messenger of God, then He showed them that verse and He spilt to them the moon into two halves, and then returned as it was, and that was one of the greatest miracles of God that has been endorsed by the Prophet, said God: (The hour drew nigh and the moon did rend asunder. (1) And if they see a miracle they turn aside and say: Transient magic. (2) And they call (it) a lie, and follow their low desires; and every affair has its appointed term. (3) And certainly some narratives have come to them wherein is prevention-- (4) Consummate wisdom-- but warnings do not avail; (5) So turn (your) back on them (for) the day when the inviter shall invite them to a hard task, (6) Their eyes cast down, going forth from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, (7) Hastening to the inviter. The unbelievers shall say: This is a hard day) Qur’an- Al-Qamar
Human created from only one sperm:

While the Qur’an, the miraculous book which revealed by God to guide people told us of this fact more than 1400 years ago! So people may believe that the Word of God. Almighty God said: (Does man think that he is to be left to wander without an aim? (36) Was he not a small seed in the seminal elements, (37) Then he was a clot of blood, so He created (him) then made (him) perfect. (38) Then He made of him two kinds, the male and the female. (39) Is not He able to give life to the dead? ) Qur’an- Al-Qiyaama
Stages of the creation of the fetus in the womb:
Microscopic studies have proven that the modern development of the embryo and created within the womb is as described by verses of the Qur’an in detail, consists first cartilaginous tissue that is transformed into the bones of the fetus, then the muscle cells are then selected from among the tissue surrounding the bone and then gather together and composed of wrapped around the bones, God the great Creator said: (And certainly We created man of an extract of clay, (12) Then We made him a small seed in a firm resting-place, (13) Then We made the seed a clot, then We made the clot a lump of flesh, then We made (in) the lump of flesh bones, then We clothed the bones with flesh, then We caused it to grow into another creation, so blessed be Allah, the best of the creators. (14) Then after that you will most surely die. (15) Then surely on the day of resurrection you shall be raised) Qur’an-Al-Muminoon
the swollen sea

(10) So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth), (11) Those who sport entering into vain discourses. (12) The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. (13) This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. (14) Is it magic then or do you not see? (15) Enter into it, then bear (it) patiently, or do not bear (it) patiently, it is the same to you; you shall be requited only (for) what you did. (16) Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss (17) Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. (18) Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, (19) Reclining on thrones set in lines, and We will unite them to large-eyed beautiful ones) Qur’an-Al Tur
Lower region of the world:

Fiery magma beneath the earth:

This is what the Quran mentioned clearly more than 1400 years ago, God told all the unbelievers and atheists who did not believe the Qur’an and the Prophet Muhammad: (Have they not travelled in the land so that they should have hearts with which to understand, or ears with which to hear? For surely it is not the eyes that are blind, but blind are the hearts which are in the breasts. (46) And they ask you to hasten on the punishment, and Allah will by no means fail in His promise, and surely a day with your Lord is as a thousand years of what you number. (47) And how many a town to which I gave respite while it was unjust, then I overtook it, and to Me is the return. (48) Say: O people! I am only a plain warner to you. (49) Then (as for) those who believe and do good, they shall have forgiveness and an honorable sustenance), Qur’an- Al-Hajj
The beauty of nature:
The researchers says that looking at the beautiful gardens making a joy in the soul, and meditation in the beauty of trees and flowers and bright colors help to treat depression and psychological conditions, and that what God said in the Qur’an more than 1400 years to remind us of the many blessings, and to harangue the infidels God said: (Nay, He Who created the heavens and the earth, and sent down for you water from the cloud; then We cause to grow thereby beautiful gardens; it is not possible for you that you should make the trees thereof to grow. Is there a god with Allah? Nay! they are people who deviate. (60) Or, Who made the earth a resting place, and made in it rivers, and raised on it mountains and placed between the two seas a barrier. Is there a god with Allah? Nay! most of them do not know! (61) Or, Who answers the distressed one when he calls upon Him and removes the evil, and He will make you successors in the earth. Is there a god with Allah? Little is it that you mind! (62) Or, Who guides you in utter darkness of the land and the sea, and Who sends the winds as good news before His mercy. Is there a god with Allah? Exalted by Allah above what they associate (with Him). (63) Or, Who originates the creation, then reproduces it and Who gives you sustenance from the heaven and the earth. Is there a god With Allah? Say: Bring your proof if you are truthful. (64) Say: No one in the heavens and the earth knows the unseen but Allah; and they do not know when they shall be raised. (65) Nay, their knowledge respecting the hereafter is slight and hasty; nay, they are in doubt about it; nay, they are quite blind to it ), Qur’an- An-Naml
(All) praise is due to Allah, Who revealed the Book to His servant and did not make in it any crookedness. (1) Rightly directing, that he might give warning of severe punishment from Him and give good news to the believers who do good that they shall have a goodly reward, (2) Staying in it for ever; (3) And warn those who say: Allah has taken a son. (4) They have no knowledge of it, nor had their fathers; a grievous word it is that comes out of their mouths; they speak nothing but a lie. (5). Qur’an (Al-Kahf) 1-5
Blessed is He Who sent down the Furqan upon His servant that he may be a warner to the nations; (1) He, Whose is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, and Who did not take to Himself a son, and Who has no associate in the kingdom, and Who created everything, then ordained for it a measure. Is it then other than Allah's religion that they seek (to follow), and to Him submits whoever is in the heavens and the earth, willingly or unwillingly, and to Him shall they be returned. (83) Say: We believe in Allah and what has been revealed to us, and what was revealed to Ibrahim and Ismail and Ishaq and Yaqoub and the tribes, and what was given to Musa and Isa and to the prophets from their Lord; we do not make any distinction between any of them, and to Him do we submit. (84) And whoever desires a religion other than Islam, it shall not be accepted from him, and in the hereafter he shall be one of the losers. Qur’an (Al-Imraan) 83- 85
When the earth is shaken with her (violent) shaking, (1) And the earth brings forth her burdens, (2) And man says: What has befallen her? (3) On that day she shall tell her news, (4) Because your Lord had inspired her. (5) On that day men shall come forth in sundry bodies that they may be shown their works. (6) So. he who has done an atom's weight of good shall see it (7) And he who has done an atom's weight of evil shall see it. (8) Qur’an (Az-Zalzala)

Indian atheist embraces Islam
Dr. Periyadarshan, an Indian professor, became a Muslim at a Dawa center in Riyadh on Thursday.

RIYADH: A well-known Indian psychotherapist embraced Islam on Thursday.
Dr. Periyadarshan, who has changed his name to Abdullah, told Arab News Friday that Islam is the only religion in the world that follows a book directly revealed from God.
He said that as a student of comparative religions he believes books of other faiths have not been directly revealed to mankind from God. He said the Holy Qur’an is still in the same format and style as it was revealed to the Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) from Almighty Allah.
Dr. Abdullah is a visiting professor at the University of California in Los Angeles.
He also acted in the famous Tamil film “Karuthamma” about the killing of newborn baby girls in some remote villages in India. The production received national award from the Indian government.
“I was well known in India for my atheist theology and later I became to realize that religion is the only way out for human beings both in this world as well as in the hereafter,” he said.
Dr. Abdullah will be performing Umrah on Saturday on his first visit to the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah.

For those of you who don't know our sister, Aminah Assilmi, who passed away this morning in a fatal car accident. She was 65 and had been ill a few years ago but had been doing much better recently. Sister Aminah was recently chosen as one of the top 500 most influential current Muslims in the world. She was credited with getting the printing of the Eid Stamp in the United States. And she had also been a champion of da'wah efforts, bringing many people into Islam by the grace of Allaah Subhaanahu wa Ta'aala.

Aminah Assilmi, a national Muslim woman leader passed away

Aminah Assilmi was a renowned female scholar of Islam she traveled around the United States to give lectures, her personal story has admired hundreds of individuals, she was also President of International Union of Muslim Women, the organization that has many achievements under its belt.

It all started with a computer glitch.
She was a Southern Baptist girl, a radical feminist, and a broadcast journalist. She was a girl with an unusual caliber, who excelled in school, received scholarships, ran her own business, and were competing with professionals and getting awards - all these while she was going to college. Then one day a computer error happened that made her take up a mission as a devout Christian. Eventually, however, it resulted into something opposite and changed her life completely around.
It was 1975 when for the first time computer was used to pre-register for a class in her college. She was working on her degree on Recreation. She pre-registered for a class and then went to Oklahoma City to take care of a business. Her return was delayed and she came back to college two weeks into the class. Making up the missed work was no problem for her, but she was surprised to find that the computer mistakenly registered her for a Theatre class, a class where students would be required to perform in front of others. She was a very reticent girl and she was horrified to think about performing in front of others. She could not drop the class for it was too late
Failing the class was also not a choice, for she was receiving a scholarship that was paying for her tuition and receiving an 'F' would have jeopardized it.
Advised by her husband, she went to her teacher to work out some other alternative to performing, such as preparing costumes, etc. Assured by the teacher that he would try to help her, she went to the next class and was shocked by what she saw. The class was full of Arabs and "camel jockeys". That was enough for her. She came back home and decided not to go back to the class anymore. It was not possible for her to be in the middle of Arabs. "There was no way I was going to sit in a room full of dirty heathens!"
Her husband was calm as usual. He pointed out to her that God has a reason for everything and that she should think about more before quitting. Besides, there was the scholarship that was paying her tuition. She went behind locked doors for 2 days to think about. When she came out, she decided to continue the class. She felt that God gave her a task to convert the Arabs into Christianity.
Thus she found herself with a mission to accomplish. Throughout the class, she would be discussing Christianity with her Arab classmates. "I proceeded to explain to them how they would burn in the fires of hell for all eternity, if they did not accept Jesus as their personal savior. They were very polite, but did not convert. Then, I explained how Jesus loved them and had died on the cross to save them from their sins. All they had to do was accept him into their hearts." They still did not convert, and so she decided to do something else: "I decided to read their own book to show to them that Islam was a false religion and Mohammed was a false Prophet".
At her request, one student gave her a copy of the Qur'an and another book on Islam. With these two books she started on her research, which she was to continue for the next one and half years. She read the Qur'an fully and another fifteen books on Islam. Then she came back to the Qur'an and re-read it. During her research, she started taking notes that she found objectionable and which she would be able to use to prove that Islam was a false religion.
Unconsciously, however, she was changing from within which did not escape the attention of her husband. "I was changing, just in little ways but enough to bother him. We used to go to the bar every Friday and Saturday, or to a party, and I no longer wanted to go. I was quieter and more distant." She stopped drinking and eating pork. Her husband suspected her of having an affair with another man, for "it was only for a man that a woman changes". Ultimately, she was asked to leave, and she soon found herself living in a separate apartment
"When I first started to study Islam, I did not expect to find anything that I needed or wanted in my personal life. Little did I know that Islam would change my life. No human could have ever convinced me that I would finally be at peace and overflowing with love and joy because of Islam."
Throughout these times, she continued studying Islam and although she was changing subtly from within, she remained a devout Christian. Then one day, there was a knock on her door. It was a man in traditional Muslim robe, who appeared to her as a "man in a long white night gown with a red and white checkered table cloth on his head". His name was Abdul-Aziz Al-Sheik and he was accompanied by three other men in similar dress. She was very offended by Muslim men coming to her in nightgowns and pajamas. She was further shocked when Abdul-Aziz told her that he understood that she waited to be a Muslim. She replied that she was a Christian and she did not have any plan to become a Muslim. However, she had some questions to ask if they had the time.
At her invitation, they came inside. She now brought up the questions and objections that she noted down while she was researching. "I will never forget his name", she said of Abdul-Aziz who proved to be a very patient and soft-mannered person. "He was very patient and discussed every question with me. He never made me feel silly or that a question was stupid." Abdul-Aziz listened to every question and objection and explained it within the proper context. "He explained that Allah had told us to seek knowledge and questions were one of the ways to accomplish that. When he explained something, it was like watching a rose open - petal by petal, until it reached its full glory. When I told him that I did not agree with something and why, he always said I was correct up to a point. Then he would show me how to look deeper and from different directions to reach a fuller understanding. "
It would not be long before she would externally submit to what she had already been submitting to internally during the last one and half years. Later in that same day, this Southern Baptist girl would declare in front of Abdul-Aziz and his companions: "I bear witness that there is no god but God and Mohammed is His Messenger." It was May 21, 1977.
Conversion to Islam, or to any other religion for that matter, is not always a simple thing to do. Except for a few fortunate ones, a new Muslim usually face consequences. The convert may face isolation from family and friends, if not pressure to go back to the family faith. Sometimes, a convert may even face sever economic hardship, as in the case of those who are asked to leave the house because of converting to Islam. Some converts are fortunate to continue to be well respected by family and friends, but most of them face minor to severe hardship especially during the first few years after the conversion.
But the difficulty that Aminah Assilimi had to go through and the sacrifice that she had to make for the sake of her conviction and faith is almost unheard of. There are few who could rely so much on Allah as she did, standing firm and meeting the challenges, making sacrifices, and yet maintaining a positive posture and influencing people around with the beauty of what she found and believed in.
She lost most of her friends, for she was "no fun anymore". Her mother did not accept her becoming a Muslim and hoped that it was a temporary zeal and that she would soon grow out of it. Her "mental health expert" sister thought that she lost her mind. She attempted to put her in a mental health institution.
Her father was a calm and wise man. People would come to him for advice and he could comfort anyone in distress. But when he heard that his daughter became a Muslim, he loaded his double-barrel shotgun and started on his way to kill her. "It is better that she be dead rather than suffering in the deepest of Hell", he said.
She was now without friends and without family.
She soon started wearing hijab. The day she put it on, she was denied her job. She was now without family, friends, and job. But her greatest sacrifice was yet to come.
She and her husband both loved each other very much. But while she was studying Islam, her husband misunderstood her for her apparent changes. She became quieter and stopped going to the bar. Her changes were visible to him and he suspected her of having affair with another man, for whom she must have been changing. She could not explain to him what was happening. "There was no way to make him understand what was changing me because I did not know." Eventually he asked her to leave and she started living separately.
After she openly accepted Islam, it went worse. A divorce was now inevitable. This was a time when Islam was little known, much less understood for what it is. She had two little children whom she loved dearly and whose custody should have rightfully be given to her. But in a grave violation of justice, she was denied their custody just because she became a Muslim. Before giving the formal verdict, the judge offered her a harsh choice: either renounce Islam and get custody of the children, or keep Islam and leave the children. She was given 20 minutes to make a decision.
She loved her children very dearly. It is perhaps the worst nightmare that a mother can have: asked to willfully leave her child - not for one day, month, or year, but forever. On the other hand, how could she keep the Truth away from her children and live as a hypocrite? "It was the most painful 20 minutes in my life", she said in an interview. Those of us who are mothers and fathers, especially of young children, little imagination is needed to feel the pain and torment that she must have passed every second in those 20 minutes. What added further to her pain was that according to doctors, she could never bear another child because of certain complications. "I prayed like I had never done before ... I knew that there was no safer place for my children to be than in the hands of Allah. If I denied Him, there would be no way in the future to show my children the wonders of being with Allah."
She decided to retain Islam. Her two dear children - one little boy and one little girl - were taken away from her and given to her ex-husband.
For a mother, is there a sacrifice greater than this - a sacrifice that is done for no material reason but only for faith and conviction?
"I left the court knowing that life without my babies would be very difficult. My heart bled, even though I knew, inside, I had done the right thing" . She found comfort in the following verse of the Qur'an:
There is no god but He,-the Living, the Self-subsisting, Eternal. No slumber can seize Him nor sleep. His are all things in the heavens and on earth. Who is there can intercede in His presence except as He permitteth? He knoweth what (appeareth to His creatures as) before or after or behind them. Nor shall they compass aught of His knowledge except as He willeth. His Throne doth extend over the heavens and the earth, and He feeleth no fatigue in guarding and preserving them for He is the Most High, the Supreme (in glory). (Quran 2: 255)
Perhaps the air of Colorado was too thin for justice. Or perhaps there was a plan in Allah's greater scheme of affairs. Aminah Assilimi later fought back and took her case to the media. Although she did not get custody of her children again, a change was made in the Colorado law that one cannot be denied child custody on the basis of his or her religion.
Indeed Allah's love and mercy engulfed her so much that, as if, she has been granted the touchstone of Islam. Wherever she goes, people are touched by her beautiful words and Islamic manners and become Muslim.
By accepting Islam, she became a changed person, and a much better person. So much so that her family, relatives, and people around her started appreciating her mannerism and the faith that brought about such changes in her. Despite her family's initial reaction, she remained in touch with them and addressed them with respect and humility, just as the Qur'an enjoins the Muslims to do. She would send cards to her parents on different occasions, but she would always write down a verse from the Qur'an or the Hadith without mentioning the source of such beautiful words of wisdom. It was not long before she started making a positive influence among her family members.
The first to become Muslim was her grand mother. She was over 100 years old. Soon after accepting Islam, she died. "The day she pronounced Shahada, all her misdeeds had been erased, while her good deeds were preserved. She died so soon after accepting Islam that I knew her "book" was bound to be heavy on the good side. It fills me with such a joy!"
Next to become Muslim was her father, the one who wanted to kill her after she became Muslim. Thus he brought alive the story of Umar ibn Khattab. Umar was a companion of the Prophet who persecuted the early Muslims before he converted to Islam. When he heard one day that his sister became a Muslim, he went out with an open sword to kill her. But upon hearing some of the verses from the Qur'an that his sister was reciting, he recognized the truth and went straight to the Prophet and accepted Islam.
Two years after she (Assilmi) accepted Islam, her mother called and said that she appreciated her faith and hoped that she would keep it. Couple of years later, she called again and asked her about what one would need to do to become a Muslim. She must have realized that becoming Muslim is indeed the most healthy and sound thing to do.
Her son, upon becoming adult, accepted Islam. When he turned 21, he called her and said that he wanted to become a Muslim.
Sixteen years after the divorce, her ex-husband also accepted Islam. He said that he had been watching her for sixteen years and wanted his daughter to have the same religion that she had. He came to her and apologized for what he had done. He was a very nice gentlemen and Assilimi had forgiven him long ago.
Perhaps the greatest reward for her was yet to come. Assilmi later married another person, and despite the doctors' verdict that she could never conceive another child, Allah blessed her with a beautiful boy. If Allah (swt) makes a gift to someone, who can prevent Him? It was truly a wonderful blessing from Allah (swt), and so she named him "Barakah"
The sacrifice that Assilmi made for the sake of Allah (swt) was tremendous. And so Allah (swt) turned in mercy to her and rewarded her with enormous blessings. Her family discarded her after she accepted Islam, and now by Allah's mercy, most of them are Muslim. She lost her friends because of Islam, and now she is being loved by so many. "Friends who loved came out of nowhere", she said. Allah's blessings came upon her so much that wherever she goes people are touched by the beauty of Islam and accept the Truth. Both Muslims and non-Muslims now come to her for advice and counseling.
She lost her job because of wearing hijab, and now she is the President of the International Union of Muslim Women. She delivers lectures nationwide and is on high demand. It was her organization that successfully lobbied for the "Eid Stamp" and had it approved by the United States Postal Service, but it took many years of work.
She had tremendous trust on Allah's love and mercy and she never looses faith on Him. She was once diagnosed with cancer some years ago. Doctors said that it was in an advanced stage and that she would live for another year. But her faith in Allah (swt) remained strong. "We must all die. I was confident that the pain I was experiencing contained blessings." As a brilliant example of how much one can love Allah, she mentions about a friend of her named Kareem Al-Misawi who died of cancer when he was in his 20's:
"Shortly before he died, he told me that Allah was truly Merciful. This man was in unbelievable anguish and was radiating with Allah's love. He said: "Allah intends that I should enter heaven with a clean book." His death experience gave me something to think about. He taught me of Allah's love and mercy."
Despite health issues, Sister Aminah maintained a rigorous schedule of speaking engagements around the nation and the world. Her current project included a Center for Muslim WomenÕs Studies that would serve as a resource center for new Muslims and as a summer camp for Muslim children.
Aminah Assilmi, a national Muslim community activist, scholar, author, and advocate for women's rights who died at March 6th, 2010 in a car accident outside of Newport, Tenn. She was returning with her son from a speaking engagement in New York. Her son, who was injured in the accident, was taken to a hospital in Knoxville. She was 65.

For those of you who don't know our sister, Aminah Assilmi, who passed away this morning in a fatal car accident. She was 65 and had been ill a few years ago but had been doing much better recently. Sister Aminah was recently chosen as one of the top 500 most influential current Muslims in the world. She was credited with getting the printing of the Eid Stamp in the United States. And she had also been a champion of da'wah efforts, bringing many people into Islam by the grace of Allaah Subhaanahu wa Ta'aala.

Aminah Assilmi was a renowned female scholar of Islam she traveled around the United States to give lectures, her personal story has admired hundreds of individuals, she was also President of International Union of Muslim Women, the organization that has many achievements under its belt.

It all started with a computer glitch.
She was a Southern Baptist girl, a radical feminist, and a broadcast journalist. She was a girl with an unusual caliber, who excelled in school, received scholarships, ran her own business, and were competing with professionals and getting awards - all these while she was going to college. Then one day a computer error happened that made her take up a mission as a devout Christian. Eventually, however, it resulted into something opposite and changed her life completely around.
It was 1975 when for the first time computer was used to pre-register for a class in her college. She was working on her degree on Recreation. She pre-registered for a class and then went to Oklahoma City to take care of a business. Her return was delayed and she came back to college two weeks into the class. Making up the missed work was no problem for her, but she was surprised to find that the computer mistakenly registered her for a Theatre class, a class where students would be required to perform in front of others. She was a very reticent girl and she was horrified to think about performing in front of others. She could not drop the class for it was too late
Failing the class was also not a choice, for she was receiving a scholarship that was paying for her tuition and receiving an 'F' would have jeopardized it.
Advised by her husband, she went to her teacher to work out some other alternative to performing, such as preparing costumes, etc. Assured by the teacher that he would try to help her, she went to the next class and was shocked by what she saw. The class was full of Arabs and "camel jockeys". That was enough for her. She came back home and decided not to go back to the class anymore. It was not possible for her to be in the middle of Arabs. "There was no way I was going to sit in a room full of dirty heathens!"
Her husband was calm as usual. He pointed out to her that God has a reason for everything and that she should think about more before quitting. Besides, there was the scholarship that was paying her tuition. She went behind locked doors for 2 days to think about. When she came out, she decided to continue the class. She felt that God gave her a task to convert the Arabs into Christianity.
Thus she found herself with a mission to accomplish. Throughout the class, she would be discussing Christianity with her Arab classmates. "I proceeded to explain to them how they would burn in the fires of hell for all eternity, if they did not accept Jesus as their personal savior. They were very polite, but did not convert. Then, I explained how Jesus loved them and had died on the cross to save them from their sins. All they had to do was accept him into their hearts." They still did not convert, and so she decided to do something else: "I decided to read their own book to show to them that Islam was a false religion and Mohammed was a false Prophet".
At her request, one student gave her a copy of the Qur'an and another book on Islam. With these two books she started on her research, which she was to continue for the next one and half years. She read the Qur'an fully and another fifteen books on Islam. Then she came back to the Qur'an and re-read it. During her research, she started taking notes that she found objectionable and which she would be able to use to prove that Islam was a false religion.
Unconsciously, however, she was changing from within which did not escape the attention of her husband. "I was changing, just in little ways but enough to bother him. We used to go to the bar every Friday and Saturday, or to a party, and I no longer wanted to go. I was quieter and more distant." She stopped drinking and eating pork. Her husband suspected her of having an affair with another man, for "it was only for a man that a woman changes". Ultimately, she was asked to leave, and she soon found herself living in a separate apartment
"When I first started to study Islam, I did not expect to find anything that I needed or wanted in my personal life. Little did I know that Islam would change my life. No human could have ever convinced me that I would finally be at peace and overflowing with love and joy because of Islam."
Throughout these times, she continued studying Islam and although she was changing subtly from within, she remained a devout Christian. Then one day, there was a knock on her door. It was a man in traditional Muslim robe, who appeared to her as a "man in a long white night gown with a red and white checkered table cloth on his head". His name was Abdul-Aziz Al-Sheik and he was accompanied by three other men in similar dress. She was very offended by Muslim men coming to her in nightgowns and pajamas. She was further shocked when Abdul-Aziz told her that he understood that she waited to be a Muslim. She replied that she was a Christian and she did not have any plan to become a Muslim. However, she had some questions to ask if they had the time.
At her invitation, they came inside. She now brought up the questions and objections that she noted down while she was researching. "I will never forget his name", she said of Abdul-Aziz who proved to be a very patient and soft-mannered person. "He was very patient and discussed every question with me. He never made me feel silly or that a question was stupid." Abdul-Aziz listened to every question and objection and explained it within the proper context. "He explained that Allah had told us to seek knowledge and questions were one of the ways to accomplish that. When he explained something, it was like watching a rose open - petal by petal, until it reached its full glory. When I told him that I did not agree with something and why, he always said I was correct up to a point. Then he would show me how to look deeper and from different directions to reach a fuller understanding. "
It would not be long before she would externally submit to what she had already been submitting to internally during the last one and half years. Later in that same day, this Southern Baptist girl would declare in front of Abdul-Aziz and his companions: "I bear witness that there is no god but God and Mohammed is His Messenger." It was May 21, 1977.
Conversion to Islam, or to any other religion for that matter, is not always a simple thing to do. Except for a few fortunate ones, a new Muslim usually face consequences. The convert may face isolation from family and friends, if not pressure to go back to the family faith. Sometimes, a convert may even face sever economic hardship, as in the case of those who are asked to leave the house because of converting to Islam. Some converts are fortunate to continue to be well respected by family and friends, but most of them face minor to severe hardship especially during the first few years after the conversion.
But the difficulty that Aminah Assilimi had to go through and the sacrifice that she had to make for the sake of her conviction and faith is almost unheard of. There are few who could rely so much on Allah as she did, standing firm and meeting the challenges, making sacrifices, and yet maintaining a positive posture and influencing people around with the beauty of what she found and believed in.
She lost most of her friends, for she was "no fun anymore". Her mother did not accept her becoming a Muslim and hoped that it was a temporary zeal and that she would soon grow out of it. Her "mental health expert" sister thought that she lost her mind. She attempted to put her in a mental health institution.
Her father was a calm and wise man. People would come to him for advice and he could comfort anyone in distress. But when he heard that his daughter became a Muslim, he loaded his double-barrel shotgun and started on his way to kill her. "It is better that she be dead rather than suffering in the deepest of Hell", he said.
She was now without friends and without family.
She soon started wearing hijab. The day she put it on, she was denied her job. She was now without family, friends, and job. But her greatest sacrifice was yet to come.
She and her husband both loved each other very much. But while she was studying Islam, her husband misunderstood her for her apparent changes. She became quieter and stopped going to the bar. Her changes were visible to him and he suspected her of having affair with another man, for whom she must have been changing. She could not explain to him what was happening. "There was no way to make him understand what was changing me because I did not know." Eventually he asked her to leave and she started living separately.
After she openly accepted Islam, it went worse. A divorce was now inevitable. This was a time when Islam was little known, much less understood for what it is. She had two little children whom she loved dearly and whose custody should have rightfully be given to her. But in a grave violation of justice, she was denied their custody just because she became a Muslim. Before giving the formal verdict, the judge offered her a harsh choice: either renounce Islam and get custody of the children, or keep Islam and leave the children. She was given 20 minutes to make a decision.
She loved her children very dearly. It is perhaps the worst nightmare that a mother can have: asked to willfully leave her child - not for one day, month, or year, but forever. On the other hand, how could she keep the Truth away from her children and live as a hypocrite? "It was the most painful 20 minutes in my life", she said in an interview. Those of us who are mothers and fathers, especially of young children, little imagination is needed to feel the pain and torment that she must have passed every second in those 20 minutes. What added further to her pain was that according to doctors, she could never bear another child because of certain complications. "I prayed like I had never done before ... I knew that there was no safer place for my children to be than in the hands of Allah. If I denied Him, there would be no way in the future to show my children the wonders of being with Allah."
She decided to retain Islam. Her two dear children - one little boy and one little girl - were taken away from her and given to her ex-husband.
For a mother, is there a sacrifice greater than this - a sacrifice that is done for no material reason but only for faith and conviction?
"I left the court knowing that life without my babies would be very difficult. My heart bled, even though I knew, inside, I had done the right thing" . She found comfort in the following verse of the Qur'an:
There is no god but He,-the Living, the Self-subsisting, Eternal. No slumber can seize Him nor sleep. His are all things in the heavens and on earth. Who is there can intercede in His presence except as He permitteth? He knoweth what (appeareth to His creatures as) before or after or behind them. Nor shall they compass aught of His knowledge except as He willeth. His Throne doth extend over the heavens and the earth, and He feeleth no fatigue in guarding and preserving them for He is the Most High, the Supreme (in glory). (Quran 2: 255)
Perhaps the air of Colorado was too thin for justice. Or perhaps there was a plan in Allah's greater scheme of affairs. Aminah Assilimi later fought back and took her case to the media. Although she did not get custody of her children again, a change was made in the Colorado law that one cannot be denied child custody on the basis of his or her religion.
Indeed Allah's love and mercy engulfed her so much that, as if, she has been granted the touchstone of Islam. Wherever she goes, people are touched by her beautiful words and Islamic manners and become Muslim.
By accepting Islam, she became a changed person, and a much better person. So much so that her family, relatives, and people around her started appreciating her mannerism and the faith that brought about such changes in her. Despite her family's initial reaction, she remained in touch with them and addressed them with respect and humility, just as the Qur'an enjoins the Muslims to do. She would send cards to her parents on different occasions, but she would always write down a verse from the Qur'an or the Hadith without mentioning the source of such beautiful words of wisdom. It was not long before she started making a positive influence among her family members.
The first to become Muslim was her grand mother. She was over 100 years old. Soon after accepting Islam, she died. "The day she pronounced Shahada, all her misdeeds had been erased, while her good deeds were preserved. She died so soon after accepting Islam that I knew her "book" was bound to be heavy on the good side. It fills me with such a joy!"
